I’m the founder of Hardstop Records—the best new indie record label in Chicago.

I play the drums in a band in Chicago. And when I say “Band” I mean it’s me and my two friends in my Bass player’s attic. We formed the Dropcloths in 2001 and have been playing ever since.

We’re pretty good (if I do say so myself) and we have so much fun playing together. But one day, it occurred to me: there must be so many artists playing out there in garages, basements, backyards, and at their cousins’ weddings that really need be heard in a more formal setting.

This label was formed for just that reason.

People are always on the search for new music. So I created a safe, new, and local label to make getting your music out there easy. You don’t need a huge contract with the big guys, you don’t need a press agent or marketing team. You just need people to say: “You should listen to this…”

What Hardstop offers the artists is development, support, and an environment to create art as you and your band see it. We’ll never try to control your sound—that’s the beauty of being an independent record label.
